Though three of the victims have been discharged the condition of Mamta, 22 and seven others was reported to be stable but serious, revealed the doctors attending on them.

Eight acid attack victims have been identified as Bhup Singh(Benani), Purand Chand((Koon), Mamta, (Koon), Muskan, Shila, (Koon), Usha, (16), Shobh Raj, Shankar Das and Prem Singh(all from Mandi tehsil). The last three have been discharged from the Zonal Hospital, Mandi as they had received minor damage to the limbs. But the first eight victims including the girl have suffered a grave cosmetic damage to their faces, legs and arms, said the doctors.
Though the police has yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime, the police sources revealed that the attacker has been identified as Muhmud Magrub from Muzaffarnagar in UP.

Vadodara, January 18: A mob killed a youth in Gajipura locality in neighbouring Kheda district, police said.
The youth identified as Pappu Rana was killed by the mob because his brother Vijay Rana had married a Muslim girl, Minaz, police said.
The minority community members had protested Vijay getting married to Minaz.
Police authorities had set up a police point with three policemen in the area to provide protection to the Rana family.
Despite police protection the group belonging to minority community managed to attack Pappu Rana with sharp weapons and killed him.
Meanwhile, all the three policemen posted at the locality have been suspended for dereliction of duty. In view of this tense situation in the area, additional company of SRP from the state headquarters has been stationed.

New Delhi, Jun 15 2008 A minor rape victim's testimony is reliable and can be used for convicting an accused, the Supreme Court has said while upholding the punishment of ten years RI awarded to a six-year-old girl's rapist.
A bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and P P Naolekar, however, reasoned that "ends of justice would be met" by reducing the sentence to five years.

A sessions court in Bihar had earlier convicted and sentenced Mohammad Kalam to ten years RI and a fine of Rs 500 for raping the minor under Section 376 IPC (conviction for rape).

Kalam's appeal before the Patna High Court was dismissed following which he appealed in the apex court.

In the apex court, Kalam took the plea that the two subordinate courts had wrongly convicted him by relying upon the testimony of a child without further corroboration. He also claimed that the sentence imposed on him was too harsh.

It was pointed out that the victim, immediately after the rape, had told her mother about the incident and, therefore, her evidence is of considerable importance.

PTI HUBLI: The Karnataka Police, probing the terror network in the state, unearthed a major haul of explosives hidden by militants at a house on the city suburbs.
On the basis of information provided by five terrorists during interrogation, police searched a house in Simla Nagar last night and found the explosives hidden by them, DGP (Corps of Detectives) Alok Kumar told reporters here.
The explosives include 150 detonators and 50 gelatine sticks.
Besides, Adnan who was arrested in Indore recently, Sibli, Mirza Baig, Safdar Hussain Nagori and Kamuruddin were being interrogated to know about the terror plans, Kumar said.
Police said they have already "confessed" about their plans to target several places in Karnataka and Goa to trigger explosions.
He said the arrested have provided certain vital information on their network, but refused to elaborate.//////////////Telgi scam amounts to just Rs 172 cr 
New Delhi, April 16: After nearly two years of probe into what was once touted as the mother-of-all-scams, money involved in the entire fake stamp paper case masterminded by Abdul Karim Telgi amounted to only Rs 172 crore and not Rs 30,000 crore as speculated when the case first came to light.
Investigations carried out by a team of the CBI, Income Tax, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Enforcement Directorate and the Reserve Bank of India have revealed that the financial magnitude of the entire scam was only Rs 172 crore.
This was conveyed to the Union Home Ministry in a report submitted by various agencies here last week giving an update on the status of the 48 cases, which were registered in 2004 based on directions from the Supreme Court.
It was earlier speculated that the scam amounted to nearly Rs 30,000 crore.
During the investigations, the team found that the alleged scamster had 36 properties across the country and 123 bank accounts in 18 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Indore, the sources said.
The financial implications also included payment of bribe by Telgi of Rs 12.38 crore to government officials, investment of Rs 2.98 crore in dance bars and Rs 2 crore in film-making.
Telgi also had a taste for expensive watches and diamond jewellery. ////////////////////

Mangalore, Oct 28 2005: A fake money circulation racket, including international currencies, has been busted by the Dakshina Kannada Anti-rowdy Squad with the arrest of six persons.

Police seized fake Indian currency notes of Rs 500 denomination, with a face value of Rs 1.05 lakh, and 16 fake US dollars of 100 dollars with the face value of Rs 26,500 in cash and six mobile phones from the accused, K Suresh Babu IGP (Western Range) told reporters here on Thursday.
Suresh Babu said police acted on information that a gang was circulating fake currency notes from a lodge in the heart of the city, raided it and arrested three persons; Simon, Abdul Raman and Moosa Haji, and seized Rs 26,500 and three mobile phones from them, he said.

The balance was given to Yusuf of Mangalpada near Kasargod who was also arrested and fake currencies of Rs 500 face value and a mobile phone seized from him, Suresh Babu said.

All the six accused were produced before the Magistrate yesterday./////////
