Volumes have been written about the abject, abysmal and astoundingly vicious treatment of a majority of women in patriarchal, male dominated societies.
We don't know when this targeted deliberate objectification and subjugation of women began, but it continues today on so many levels that it's mind boggling.( The Christian Church quickly comes to mind)
A good friend of mine had his own esteemed opinion on the increasing rape of female minors, teenagers, incestous rape, etc that much of it could be blamed on the media glut of the glorification of obscene flashing of sexual imagery, near nudity of Indian women on the small screen( the silver screen is equally guilty) and the repressed sexuality of our society in general.
Or the fact that the perpetrators are mainly men who are degenrates or have uncontrollable urges.
To some extent I could agree with him, that a man who rapes a 5 month old baby, or a 6, 7, 8, 9 year old child is definitely a mentally deficient person, not responsible for his actions(?).
But what of the uncle who rapes his helpless niece, or the father who rapes his daughter or for that matter the men who gang rape women? They too are mentally challenged? Some short circuit takes place in their brains to commit this horrible act?
That means a large part of societly in India comprises these men???
NO.
This stems from a deep rooted misogyny in our men..or men in societies who treat their women monstrously.
Rape:Unlawful sexualy activity, usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will of a female or person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent, an outrageous violation.
Rape is the tool of men to humiliate, torture, subjugate women. Its age old.
Here in America, women did not have rights for a long time.but that changed, because just as slavery was abolished, the unequal treatment of women too was seen as gross injustice.
Rape, pediophilia, incestuous rape exists here also, the difference is that women/children get justice here, they are not humiliated by the police or society when it is reported.
Their character is not assasinated.
"You asked for it" does not exist here.
Shame and dishonor is not brought upon a family if a woman is raped here. Again something concocted by men who dont want a "tainted woman".
Horrors upon horrors, in some parts( I say some conservatively) the word of men have to support the allegation of rape of a woman.
Like if rape was taking place they were simply watching the proceedings!!!.
How much more humiliating can it get for a woman already destroyed by this violation to her person, her soul, her dignity?
Yes it is deep rooted Misogyny. Bharat Mata is raped everyday. A Laksmhi, a Parvati, a Saraswati is raped everyday.
The mothers who bring up their sons in a society such as ours and other such societies and who willingly perpetuate the importance of male children of female are equally to blame.
The worship of Goddesses, a direct contrast to the terrible fate that women must endure in our country and elsewhere.( We are not talking about the privileged elite)
Newsflash. JUST IN. A woman was gangraped by her brother in law and four other friends.
A eight year old girl was raped by a neighbor.

A well annalysed write...You have raised a valid issue....I feel such people are metally sick ..........Health facilitiesd being not up to mark in India such people dont get the required treatment....More over they do not want to disclose their sickness and even their families hide their disease....due to social bindings...Secondly they dont get the punishment when they do such crimes....cases are prolonged and justice is delayed..media trials adds to the agony of vitims......So a lot need to be done to tackle such crimes........yash

thabadcat,
I agree with you.
The strong deterrents are missing in India.
The age old biases, norms and prejudices do contribute to the depressing scenarios. The females who report such acts are harassed to extreme limits.
It has been established by researches allover the world that repeated exposure to such acts in media does trigger similar behavior in some people, who have lesser control on their own acts.
It’s a very though provoking blog.
Warm regards,
